RYA Competent Crew Practical Course – Practical Sail Training Course
Course Duration: 5 Day’s + 4 Night’s Accommodation Onboard
The RYA Competent Crew Practical Course is for Sailing beginners this is a practical sail training course for all ages.
This is our 5 Day Competent Crew Course – Also available over longer periods 6/7 days & private tuition
For those who would like to learn to sail and become active crew members rather than just passengers. Learn To Sail with RYA Courses. On completion you will receive a Competent Crew Sailing Qualification.
Experience living, sailing, cooking and sleeping on board for 5 days and really get to know the boat. Virtually all the course is hands on. You are the crew – without you the sails won’t go up and the boat won’t be steered. This is very much a Practical Sail Training course.
By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board.
Where will we go?
During the course you will visit some some if the 1000 islands in Croatia that will include the islands of Brac, Solta, Hvar and Vis all weather dependent and of course have an enjoyable holiday.
Yacht Sail Training also offer the Competent Crew sailing qualification over a longer period of 6/7 days onboard.
Private Yacht Training?
Alternatively charter the whole yacht for yourself and take your RYA Competent Crew course a more relaxed way over 6/7 days or even consider private tuition for yourself and up to 4 friends / family.

RYA Competent Crew – Requirements & Outcomes
|Pre-course experience||None – this course is for any level and will teach you all the basics|
|Assumed knowledge||None – We teach you everything you need to know for this course onboard.|
|Minimum duration||5 days. (For longer periods check out our 6/7 day courses and Private Tuition)|
|Minimum age||None – Course is available to all ages.|
|Course content||Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails, sail handling, ropework, fire precautions and fighting, personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, meteorology, seasickness, helmsmanship, general duties, manners and customs, rules of the road, dinghies|
|Ability after the course||Able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines|
On succesful completion of this course the next stage would be the RYA Days Skipper Theory Course & RYA Day Skipper Practical course. This will then enable you to charter your own yacht in the future. RYA Day Skipper is one of the minimum requirements for chartering a yacht in most countries. Please also consider you may require to apply for an ICC and a VHF license on completion of the RYA Day Skipper practical course in order to use the qualification when chartering a yacht, The ICC is available free to all RYA members.
